What effect does it have on politics? These questions have received a great deal of attention by scholars of American and European contexts where their contributions have taken on a universalistic overtone. Are these generalized assumptions valid in other societies – notably in Muslim-majority contexts?

Then there’s the fact that these images are all of men and Black people, allowing us to question the male bias and racial assumptions in modern visual culture.

MEASA is seeking submissions for the 39th Annual MESA Film Festival. The MESA FilmFest is in its 39th year, and is a valued part of the MESA Annual Meeting. We are excited to be offering a virtual FilmFest for the third year in a row. We are opening the call for submissions, and we hope that you will be interested in participating.

All films will be vetted by the FilmFest Committee or by selected regional/topical experts. The films will only be available to registered conference attendees.
