The Zahra Center - Based on the novel "Surviving Zahra" by Fatima Aly Jaffer, directed by Iman Mazloum, this is a play about the culture of silence regarding domestic abuse and sexual assault in North American Muslim communities, set against a backdrop of a seven day long wedding with matchmaking aunties and annoying sister-in-laws. This play offers a narrative of the North American Muslim experience while also exploring issues that are seen as taboo topics in most societies. Performance dates are March 26th and 27th at 2 p.m. in the McConomy Auditorium at Carnegie Mellon University.

Consortium for Educational Resources on Islamic Studies
CERIS hosts the annual Undergraduate Research Symposium to encourage undergraduate students to advance their research experience, specially on issues that impact Muslims in historical or contemporary contexts or Islamic thought, history, and theology. A broad range of topics are accepted. Topics beyond theology may be covered, such as politics, policies, social change, culture, art, economy and technology. Former topics have included Hindu-Muslim Tension in India, Palestinian Hip Hop, Jordan’s Reproductive Policies, etc.
This annual event is hosted to for students to present their work on topics related to Islamic Studies, network with other students and faculty, and to learn from student and keynote presentations. (Institutions can apply for CERIS travel grants if necessary to travel to Pittsburgh on April 9th for the deliberations.)
The story of four children surviving in war-torn Aleppo, and their escape to a new life in Germany. The documentary follows a Syrian family that FRONTLINE first profiled back in 2014 over three years, from the siege of their city, to the kidnapping of their father, to the struggle of becoming refugees.
