The Center for Contemporary Arab Studies invites you to a lecture by Dr. Shana Marshall, Associate Director of the Institute for Middle East Studies at the George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs.

Dr. Marshall will examine the global nature of the arms industry, challenging state-centric narratives by exploring the transnationalization of the military-industrial complex (MIC), including the emergence of regional MICs in the Middle East and the Global South. Drawing on recent research, the discussion will highlight the role of private finance—venture capital and private equity—in shaping new weapons systems and models of warfare, as well as the influence of think tanks in driving militarism. This lecture is part of a series in conjunction with the course Studying the Arab World. This talk will be moderated by Dr. Rochelle Davis.
