The first part of this online workshop will focus on the lessons, readings, and videos in the Choices Program’s The Syrian Civil War unit, which is provided. Participants are asked to come to the workshop having read the curriculum unit.

The last hour of the workshop will feature an interactive panel discussion with members of DACOR who were involved in efforts to resolve the Syrian Civil War.

Workshop fee: $20, non refundable.

Educators are invited to participate in the spring 2021 book discussion Faces of Muhammad: Western Perceptions of the Prophet Of Islam from the Middle Ages To Today by John V. Tolan (Princeton University Press, 2019). The event will take place at 6 PM Eastern Standard Time

The 32nd Teachers’ Institute is from July 4 - 17, 2021

The Dar al Islam Teachers' Institutes have been held at our famous facilities in Abiquiu, New Mexico since 1994.

Our goal is to enable educators to teach about Islam with greater confidence. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the basic tenets of Islam and see how Islam works in the daily lives of the program’s Muslim faculty and staff.

Through discourse, study of texts, and interaction with Muslims, some of the questions we seek to address include:

Johnson") comes "Welcome to Chechnya," a powerful and eye-opening documentary about a group of activists risking their lives to confront the ongoing anti-LGBTQ persecution in the repressive and closed Russian republic of Chechnya. With unfettered access and a commitment to protecting anonymity, this documentary exposes Chechnya's underrepresented atrocities while highlighting a group of people who are confronting brutality head-on.
