Announced by the University of Pittsburgh

Join the Ridgway Center for an important lecture by Abdul-Hye Miah, formerly of the London Metropolitan Police and now Senior Lecturer at the University of Northampton. Drawing on several decades of experience in counterterrorism at “Scotland Yard,” Abdul will discuss the recent race riots in the United Kingdom.

Abdul became a university lecturer following a 30-year career as a police officer with the London Metropolitan Police Service where he served in a range of operational roles including Counter Terrorism, Hostage & Crisis Negotiation, Anti-Corruption, Professional Standards, Special Branch and Neighborhood Policing. After 9/11, he was asked to serve as a liaison with local Muslim communities, essential service for which he was labeled a “traitor” by some. Abdul later became one of Britain’s top hostage negotiators. Come, snack, and learn from one of the best practitioners in the business.
