The Tajiks, as Central Asia's Persian-speakers are known, were considered the custodians of Islamic high culture across the region for more than a thousand years. Today they are a marginalized, impoverished nation spread across four countries. Richard Foltz will present the revised edition of his book “A History of the Tajiks: Iranians of the East” (2023), focusing on the two new chapters, on the Tajiks of Uzbekistan, and recent events affecting Tajiks in Afghanistan and Tajikistan, including the Taliban’s return to power, the COVID pandemic, and Kyrgyz-Tajik border clashes.
