Science fiction, a relatively recent addition to the literatures of the Middle East, reflects the concerns of contemporary society, speculating on what could happen in the future, or what could have happened were something changed in the past. Translating science fiction adds an extra layer of complexity to its interpretation. This conference, including both scholars and authors of Middle Eastern Science Fiction, is an initial discussion of both the genre’s place in Middle Eastern societies and its translation. The session on Sunday consists of 2 authors of Middle Grade/ Young Adult science fiction and is specifically intended for teachers.
