Announced by the University of Pittsburgh
The Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, in partnership with the Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, the African Studies Program, and the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, and Georgetown University Qatar is hosting Kenneth Roth, former Executive Director of Human Rights Watch and Visiting Professor at the Princeton School for Public and International Affairs, for a talk titled “Righting Wrongs: Reflections on Battling Abusive Governments”.
Kenneth Roth’s first book, Righting Wrongs , will be published by Knopf on February 25. It offers an insider’s view of the strategies used by Human Rights Watch to put pressure on governments to respect human rights, drawing on his years of experience. Debunking the skeptics, it demonstrates with repeated examples how pressure can move even the most powerful and recalcitrant governments. It takes on some of the most difficult cases, including China, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Israel.
