Dr. Luke Peterson will speak on "The Settler Movement: History, Impacts, and Perceptions" at his lecture this Friday, February 7, 3:00 pm, in 4130 Posvar Hall. Sponsored by the Global Studies Center
This lecture explores the role of the settler movement inside Israel and the Palestinian Territories as a crucial aspect affecting the broader political conflict in Palestine-Israel. The lecture will examine the politics, history, and impact of this movement from its inception in the early 1970s through to the present day. This talk will also explore a sampling of linguistic representations of settlers and the settler movement offered up in the authoritative news media and will speculate about the formation of public knowledge about this aspect of the conflict within contemporary American society. Concluding comments in this lecture will consider potential resolutions to this facet of the conflict, as well as to related aspects of political conflict in the Middle East.
